Kolkata: The Election Commission aims to complete the hearing of all 3,168,424 unmapped voters in West Bengal by 5-6 January 2026.
This will translate into about three lakh hearings per day. This hearing for unmapped voters will start on 27 December.
Initially, it will start in many Assembly constituencies and within a couple of days, the exercise will be expanded to all 294 Assembly segments.
Until yesterday, the Election Commission had generated close to 20 lakh hearing notices.
In the second phase, the Commission will issue hearing notices to approximately 14,000,000 voters whose enumeration forms were found with one of seven types of logical discrepancies.
The Commission has planned to entrust one ERO and 10 AEROs with the responsibilities of conducting the first phase hearing exercise in each Assembly constituency.
In case the situation demands, the Election Commission will deploy additional AEROs to conclude the hearings by 5-6 January.
There will be 11 rooms arranged for the hearing exercise in every Assembly constituency. One will be for the ERO and 10 for AEROs on average.
In every room, hearings of 150 unmapped voters will be conducted, which means 1650 hearings a day in an Assembly constituency on average.
The number of AEROs can be increased to expedite the hearing process.
The Commission has also appointed close to 4600 micro-observers who will remain present in the hearing proceedings of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and monitor the work of the EROs and AEROs.
There will be one micro observer per room, which means 11 micro observers will be present in the hearing process on average in an Assembly constituency.
