Kolkata: The Election Commission has upgraded the BLO App with a new feature.
This feature helps BLOs correct discrepancies, such as spelling variations of elector names, the addition or omission of middle names and surname mismatches.
For these errors that surfaced on the draft SIR rolls, the concerned voters will not have to appear for the Election Commission hearing. These mistakes can be rectified on the app itself by BLOs.
The exercise demands BLOs to verify elector details, uploading fresh data, along with supporting documents.
They will provide an undertaking stating the reason behind the mismatch between a voter’s details in the previous electoral roll and the current draft.
The Commission is segregating electors with these discrepancies. Subsequently, the BLOs themselves can reverify their details and correct the errors instead of being called for hearings.
Once the BLOs reverify the documents of voters with logical flaws, they will upload a signed undertaking letter confirming correct mapping with the last SIR.
BLOs will also recheck the documents of those who are mapped to their grandparents for their link to the last SIR.
The proof of the relationship with grandparents will have to be uploaded to the app.
There are about 80,681 BLOs across West Bengal and each of them has several cases of discrepancies in different constituencies.
