Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will open special counters at the borough offices to collect documents from citizens who require copies of birth or death certificates or need corrections in certificates ahead of the SIR hearing.
This initiative will provide relief to senior citizens and physically challenged individuals travelling to the KMC headquarters from distant city areas.
KMC will also accept documents from citizens at the borough level who wish to apply for domicile certificates.
In both cases, the documents will be scanned at special help desks. Based on authentication, KMC will issue the certificates from the borough offices themselves.
Currently, citizens need to visit a KMC office at Town Hall to submit their documents to obtain a domicile certificate.
The KMC health department has already increased the daily quota of applications for birth and death certificates through a chatbot (8335999111).
This will cater to the needs of citizens who might need to appear for a hearing and submit birth or death certificates as proof of their citizenship.
The mayor, Firhad Hakim, has instructed KMC CMHzo Ranita Sengupta to ensure KMC receives at least 500 birth and death certificates daily and processes them as quickly as possible.
