New Delhi: The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, launched in October 2022, is aimed at bridging the digital divide by promoting indigenous telecom technologies for rural and remote areas, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar told Rajya Sabha on 18 December.
In a written reply, Chandra Sekhar said that as of 10 December, a total of 136 projects worth Rs 542.22 crore have been approved under the scheme.
These projects have been awarded to IITs, NITs, MSMEs, startups and research institutions, focusing on areas such as 5G and 6G, Internet of Things, optical and satellite communications, quantum communication, indigenous core networks and Open RAN.
MoS Communications also stated that TTDF has approved a project to set up a 6G test bed at SAMEER Kolkata, in collaboration with IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati and IIT Patna, which has already developed an indigenous prototype.
Highlighting outcomes, he said the scheme has so far led to 26 patent filings, 36 contributions to telecom standards and 48 research publications, reflecting growing domestic innovation in telecom technologies.
