Kolkata: There has been a major reshuffle in the top echelons of the West Bengal state police administration.
Peeyush Pandey, a 1993 batch IPS officer, has been appointed the Director General (DG) of West Bengal State Police.
Earlier, Pandey was the first Commissioner of Police of the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate.
He has also served on central deputation, including a long stint with the Special Protection Group (SPG).
Pandey replaces Rajiv Kumar, who is retiring on 31 January.
In addition, the 1997 batch IPS officer Supratim Sarkar has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata.
He was currently serving as the Additional Director General (South Bengal).
Earlier, Sarkar has also served as Bidhannagar Police Commissioner.
Sarkar has also become famous for his books on Lalbazar case investigations that first appeared on the Kolkata Police Facebook page.
Sarkar replaces existing Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, who has been appointed Director of Security (Chief Minister’s Security).
IPS Vineet Goyal has been appointed ADG (Law and Order), replacing IPS Javed Shamim, who in turn replaced Goyal as ADG-IG, STF.
Goyal has been given additional charge of the Anti-Corruption Branch, while Shamim has been given additional charge of the Intelligence Branch.
The IG of the CID, IPS Vishal Garg, has been made the ADG, Cyber Cell.
Ajey Mukund Ranade, the current ADG Home guards has been made the ADG, Telecommunications.
