New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has granted approval for a two-year extension of the central deputation of IAS Dr. Kajal.
Dr. Kajal is an officer of the 2008 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. She is currently serving as Director in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
According to an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Dr. Kajal’s tenure has been extended from April 13, 2026, to April 12, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Her deputation was earlier scheduled to end on April 12, 2026.
Dr. Kajal has been on central deputation since April 13, 2021, and has been serving as Director at DPIIT since January 2023. The extension was approved following a proposal from DPIIT and reflects recognition of her role in strengthening India’s industrial ecosystem, supporting entrepreneurship, and advancing internal trade policies.
A medical professional turned civil servant, Dr. Kajal brings a rare mix of technical knowledge and administrative experience. Over the years, she has held several key positions in Uttar Pradesh. These include Director of Local Bodies, where she handled urban governance and municipal administration from 2018 to 2021, and Special Secretary in the Basic Education Department.
Earlier in her career, she served as Joint Magistrate and Chief Development Officer in Meerut, District Magistrate and Collector of Mahoba, and played a key role in initiating the Geographical Indication tag process for Desawari Paan. She has also held leadership roles in the Health Department, National Rural Health Mission, Women Welfare Department, energy distribution, and renewable energy development.
The extension is expected to ensure continuity in key policy initiatives at DPIIT.
