New Delhi, (APAC Media): The Government of India on Monday assured citizens that there is sufficient availability of petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and piped natural gas (PNG) across the country, following reports of panic buying at some retail outlets.
“There is adequate availability of petrol, diesel, LPG, and PNG in the country. To ensure this, the Government of India has taken several measures at multiple levels and continues to do so. Our refineries are operating normally, and crude inventories are sufficient.” Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said.
She noted that while most retail outlets were functioning normally, isolated instances of panic buying had been observed.
“I would like to assure citizens that petrol and diesel are available in sufficient quantities nationwide,” Sharma added, urging the public not to engage in hoarding and to rely on official information regarding fuel availability.
“To ensure adequate availability in the domestic market and to prevent prices from rising, the Government of India has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre. In addition, an export levy has been imposed on diesel to ensure that sufficient quantities remain available in the domestic market.” Joint Secretary Sharma expressed.
Sharma further highlighted the stability of gas supplies, emphasising that “Natural gas allocations for households and commercial use, including CNG for transport, are being maintained in full. LPG deliveries are continuing without disruption, and all distribution channels are functioning normally.”
Officials confirmed that ongoing coordination with states, oil marketing companies, and distributors would continue to ensure seamless supply of essential fuels, even as global energy markets remain volatile. The government has called on citizens to remain calm and avoid panic buying.
