Pune: The Government of Maharashtra has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chambery Power Private Limited, a group company of EDF Power Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., for the development of the Pimpalpada–Savale Pumped Storage Project in the Pune and Raigad districts.Â
The MoU was signed and exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The proposed project will have a generation capacity of 2,100 MW and will involve a total investment of Rs. 10,217 crore. It is expected to create around 2,500 employment opportunities during its development and operational phases. The project will be implemented by Chambery Power Private Limited in coordination with the state’s Water Resources Department.
With this agreement, Maharashtra has now initiated a total of 55 pumped storage projects across the state. These projects together aim to generate 78,215 MW of clean energy. The state government estimates that the cumulative investment across these initiatives will reach approximately Rs. 4.17 lakh crore, while creating employment opportunities for nearly 1.28 lakh people.
Pumped storage projects play a key role in supporting renewable energy integration by storing surplus power and supplying it during peak demand periods. The Pimpalpada–Savale project is expected to strengthen Maharashtra’s energy infrastructure and contribute to long-term energy security.
