Hyderabad, Apr 17 (CXO Media): U.S.-based digital manufacturing company Protolabs is setting up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, with plans to hire about 200–300 engineers in the initial phase, according to discussions held with D. Sridhar Babu.
The proposed GCC will focus on engineering, product development, and digital manufacturing technologies that support rapid prototyping and on-demand production. The centre is expected to support the company’s global operations and contribute to product development workflows rather than routine support functions. Officials from Telangana said the investment reflects ongoing efforts to position the state as a destination for advanced engineering and product-focused capability centres. The hiring strategy indicates demand for specialised engineering talent, particularly in design, prototyping, and manufacturing technologies.
Company leadership indicated that India offers access to engineering talent and proximity to growing manufacturing demand across Asia. The Hyderabad centre is expected to integrate with the company’s global manufacturing network, which serves thousands of customers across sectors including automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing.
With global manufacturers increasingly focusing on shorter design-to-production cycles, companies are expanding engineering centres in markets that combine skilled talent pools with cost efficiencies.
The development also reflects a broader shift in the GCC model in India, where multinational firms are moving beyond back-office functions to establish engineering and innovation-led centres. Advisory firm aAROHAN Global Consulting is supporting the setup of the facility, indicating increasing use of specialised firms to design large-scale capability centres.
