Mumbai, 7 Apr, (CXO Media): Tata Play Fiber has partnered with IBM to overhaul its data systems. The broadband service provider is working with IBM to build a unified data platform that will consolidate multiple internal data sources into a single environment designed to support analytics and artificial intelligence workloads. The move reflects a broader trend among telecom and broadband firms to modernise legacy data systems as customer volumes and service complexity increase.
According to company disclosures, the project will bring together data from 25 separate systems, including customer databases, marketing records, finance data, call centre logs, and service operations. Fragmented data systems have long been cited as a challenge in telecom operations, often leading to inconsistent reporting and slower decision-making. By integrating these sources, Tata Play Fiber aims to standardise information flows and improve real-time access to operational data.
The platform will be built using IBM’s watsonx data and AI technology stack. The system is designed to handle both structured and semi-structured data, enabling analytics teams to generate insights across departments.
Industry analysts note that telecom providers increasingly rely on such unified data environments to monitor service quality, anticipate customer churn, and improve network planning.
Company executives said the platform is expected to support customer retention strategies and identify potential cross-selling opportunities by analysing usage patterns and service behaviour. Operational teams, including customer support and field service units, are also expected to gain faster access to service-related data, which could help reduce response times and improve fault resolution.
The initiative also signals growing adoption of AI-driven data architectures within India’s broadband sector. As data consumption rises and customer expectations shift toward faster service delivery, companies are investing in infrastructure capable of processing large volumes of operational and behavioural data in near real time.
Tata Play Fiber has indicated that future phases of the project may include adding network performance and regional demand datasets. Such additions could enable predictive analytics, including demand forecasting and service optimisation, areas increasingly seen as critical for maintaining service reliability and managing expanding subscriber bases.
