Noida, Apr 7 (APAC Media): Tata Group-owned Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, has resigned from his position, according to a source familiar with the development.
Mr. Wilson was appointed CEO and MD of Air India in July 2022, after former Turkish Airlines Chairman Ilker Ayci declined the role in March 2022 amid controversy. Tata Group had acquired the airline from the government earlier that year, in January 2022.
“He expressed his desire to resign, conveyed it to the Board, and resigned,” the source said.
“We acknowledge the resignation of Mr. Campbell Wilson and thank him for his contributions during his tenure. The Board will soon announce a process for appointing a new CEO.” Air India said.
Earlier this year, sources indicated that Tata Group was scouting for a suitable candidate to head the airline, as Mr. Wilson’s five-year tenure was set to conclude in 2027.
Air India’s low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express, has also been without a head since March 19, following the departure of Managing Director Aloke Singh, who completed his five-year term.
Mr. Wilson had faced scrutiny since June 12 last year, after the crash of a London-bound Air India flight shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport, which killed 241 of the 242 people on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
