Gold and silver prices opened sharply lower on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Thursday morning, as renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and firmer crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment following fresh US military action against Iran.
In domestic futures trade, silver contracts for July 2026 delivery declined by ₹5,012, or nearly 2 per cent, to ₹2,30,492 per kilogram. Gold futures for August 2026 delivery fell ₹1,573, or about 1 per cent, to ₹1,46,444 per 10 grams.
In the previous session, gold had ended lower, while silver had posted marginal gains.
The decline reflects continued pressure from global factors such as a stronger US dollar, shifting expectations over US Federal Reserve interest rate policy, and easing geopolitical concerns, which have reduced demand for safe-haven assets.

Market participants said recent price movements indicate profit-booking after a period of elevated bullion prices. Retail demand has also shown signs of moderation as buyers await further corrections ahead of the upcoming festive and wedding season.
Silver prices also moved lower in domestic markets, mirroring the trend in gold. While industrial demand for silver remains relatively stable, investor interest has weakened amid uncertainty in global commodity markets.

Analysts noted that bullion markets are currently reacting to macroeconomic signals, particularly inflation data and central bank commentary, which continue to influence global investment sentiment. They added that short-term volatility is likely to persist, although intermittent recoveries cannot be ruled out.
Traders said domestic prices across metros have largely moved in tandem, indicating uniform pressure in the Indian bullion market.
Experts advised investors to track international developments closely, as movements in global rates and currency fluctuations are expected to remain key drivers for gold and silver pricing in the near term.
Overall, precious metals continued to trade on a softer note, reflecting cautious sentiment among investors amid ongoing global economic uncertainty.
