Lucknow, June 8 (APAC Media): Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today inaugurated the newly designated Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Lucknow along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
This marks a significant step in strengthening India’s weather and climate services network.
Dedicated Services for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand
The Regional Meteorological Centre will serve Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and adjoining regions, enabling more focused monitoring, forecasting, and dissemination of weather-related information. The move is expected to decentralize meteorological services and improve the efficiency of regional forecasting systems.
Plans were also announced for the development of advanced infrastructure at the centre, including Doppler Weather Radars and wind profiler systems, with support from the Uttar Pradesh government.
Improved Forecasting to Reduce Disaster Risks
The recent advancements in weather prediction technologies showcase that enhanced forecasting systems play a crucial role in reducing disaster risks. They provide advance warnings for flash floods, cloudbursts, lightning, thunderstorms, avalanches, and other extreme weather events.
The declaration of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, is expected to strengthen weather services and support disaster management, agriculture, aviation, and public safety across northern India.
