Gandhinagar, July 13 (APAC Media): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced free government land support for the state’s nine newly formed Municipal Corporations.
The land will be provided free of cost for five years. It will be used to build key civic infrastructure and improve public services in rapidly expanding urban areas.
Nine New Municipal Corporations to Benefit
The decision will benefit Vapi, Mehsana, Porbandar, Morbi, Gandhidham, Nadiad, Anand, Navsari and Surendranagar Municipal Corporations.
These urban bodies were earlier classified as Class ‘A’ Municipalities.
They were recently upgraded to Municipal Corporations, bringing larger surrounding areas under their jurisdiction.
The expansion has increased the need for better roads, water supply, drainage and other civic facilities.
To speed up development, CM Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to simplify the government land allotment process at the district level.
Land for 11 Key Civic Facilities in Gujarat
The free land support will cover 11 categories of essential public utility projects.
These include municipal office buildings, fire stations, sewage and water treatment plants, underground drainage networks and pumping stations.
Land can also be used for water supply projects, solid and liquid waste management plants and storm water drainage systems.
Balwadi or Anganwadi centres, town halls, community halls and convention centres are also covered under the initiative.
Policy Benefit Extended to New Corporations
The Gujarat government has extended a land support benefit earlier available to Municipalities to the nine newly upgraded Municipal Corporations.
The move is expected to reduce delays in securing land for major civic projects.
It will also allow the new corporations to build essential infrastructure during their transition and expansion phase.
Gujarat Push for Faster Urban Growth
With urban boundaries expanding, the Gujarat government is focusing on planned development and stronger civic services.
The free land initiative is expected to help the nine new Municipal Corporations develop critical infrastructure faster.
The move also underlines the state’s push to equip emerging urban centres with better public facilities and improve service delivery for residents.
