New Delhi, July 19 (APAC Media): Skyroot Aerospace made history after its Vikram-1 rocket successfully lifted off from ISRO’s Sriharikota launch pad and reached the Low Earth Orbit.Â
The mission marks the first successful launch of a privately built Indian rocket into orbit, making Skyroot the first private company in the country to achieve this milestone.Â
It is also the Hyderabad-based startup’s second successful launch, underlining the rapid growth of India’s private space sector.
Who was present, and why is the mission significant?
Founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, Skyroot Aerospace has emerged as one of India’s leading space startups.Â
The launch was attended by several key figures from the country’s space community, including ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka, former ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla. Their presence highlighted the increasing collaboration between government agencies and private companies to strengthen India’s space ecosystem.
What did Vikram-1 carry, and what comes next?
The rocket carried six technology demonstration payloads from Indian and international customers. These included two payloads from German company Dcubed, a lab-grown diamond named Cosmic Bloom by India’s Cosmos Diamonds, and a miniature 18-karat gold rocket crafted by Telangana artists.Â
Following this landmark mission, Skyroot plans multiple additional test flights in 2026 and 2027. The success of Vikram-1 is expected to boost confidence in India’s private launch capabilities and strengthen the country’s position in the global commercial space market.
