New Delhi, 19 August (APAC Media): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on September 17, as India steps up efforts to build a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem.
The three-day conference and exhibition, scheduled from September 17 to 19 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, will bring together global semiconductor companies, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, startups, and academic institutions.
Jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and global semiconductor industry association SEMI, the event is themed “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.”
Focus on Semicon 2.0, innovation, and talent
The conference comes as India’s semiconductor programme gathers momentum. Under Semicon India 1.0, 12 semiconductor projects have been approved, while the Union Cabinet has cleared Semicon 2.0 to further accelerate the development of the country’s semiconductor ecosystem.
The next phase will place greater emphasis on semiconductor research, design, and innovation. State-of-the-art design tools have been made available to more than 332 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive scheme.
Global companies to participate
SEMICON India 2026 will feature keynotes, panel discussions, fireside chats, and international roundtables covering manufacturing, artificial intelligence, supply chains, materials, sustainability, product design, startups, and workforce development.
A new “Sand to Silicon to Systems” Value Chain Experience will highlight India’s expanding capabilities across the semiconductor value chain.
According to Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary, MeitY, and CEO of ISM, global semiconductor demand is expected to grow from around USD 1 trillion to USD 2 trillion, while India’s requirement could rise from about USD 100 billion to USD 200 billion.
Leading participants will include ASML, Applied Materials, Infineon, IBM Research, Micron, NXP, Tata Electronics, Lam Research and Tokyo Electron, among others.
