Synopsis- The 2nd PSU Summit organized by APAC News Network in New Delhi brought together technology leaders from 50+ PSUs to discuss various facets of digital transformations of their organizations and challenges incurred thereof. Some speakers discussed on different facets to make the Indian PSUs more globally competitive through digitization.


Cybersecurity was one such key facet brought out by Sanjay Kumar Das, Joint Secretary, Department of Information Technology & Electronics and State Information Security Officer, West Bengal India witnessed 13.91 lakh cybersecurity incidents reported in 2022 and 40% of them were against PSUs, he informed. “High value data, large attack surfaces, decentralized IT environment, limited cybersecurity policies, regulatory compliance challenges, limited funding and insider threats are some of the pain points of security in the public sector,” added Das. “Identity challenge, data exchange platforms and periphery are the three critical security issues today,” added Golok K Simli, Principal Advisor &CTO, Passport Seva Program, Ministry of External Affairs.

Amongst PSUs, oil & gas has undergone major digital transformation, and Indian Oil has been the front runner in this journey, revealed Manish Grover, Executive Director—Strategic IS, Indian Oil. He highlighted how new and emerging technologies have helped Indian Oil move forward. “Deep analytics and machine learning have improved our productivity. The RPA platform has provided us 4-10 times our returns and the data lakes too have helped us optimize. We have also created an OT SOC,” Grover highlighted.

B Chandrasekhar, Executive Director, EdCIL outlined how NPTEL and DIKSHA are platforms enabled by technology for both students and teachers to enable capacity building in education. “ Asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid learning, augmented reality, virtual reality—learning has changed paradigm with what technology has made available,” concluded Chandrasekhar. India has taken a lead among Asian countries in utilizing the pool of learning resources available, he added.




The PSU summit was supported by a host of industry leaders including Ruckus Networks, Red Hat, Fortinet, Dassault Systems, Accops, Pinnacle, innspark, RAH Infotech and Fidel Softech. “Waiting for delicensing for 6GHz spectrum would be the key for the networking industry in the future,” revealed Kalyan Chakravarthy, Head—Systems Engineering, India & SAARC, Ruckus Networks. “Digital leaders move fast, look beyond processes and strategy shifts, navigate economic and market disruptions and are interoperable, flexible and scalable,” added Sarabjit Singh Madan, Chief Architect, Red Hat South Asia. “OT infrastructure attacks are getting worse in petroleum, nuclear or oil plans and in metro railways,” informed Hiral Sharma, Principal Architect, India & SAARC, Fortinet.
