In a recent regulatory filing Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Bharat Sanchar Nagar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and MTNL, both loss-making state-run telecom companies, have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate collaborative operations.
BSNL has already assumed control of mobile service operations that were previously managed by BSNL.
MTNL disclosed, “We are pleased to inform you that on Thursday, August 31, 2023, MTNL signed an MoU with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.”
In the last four years, the government has approved a significant amount of financial support, adding up to Rs 3,23,047 crore for the revival of BSNL and MTNL. In addition, the BharatNet project has received an extra allocation of Rs 1.39 lakh crore, administered by Bharat Broadband Network Limited.
According to the filing, MTNL’s MoU with BSNL will help pave the way for “synergy of operations”, enabling the provision of nationwide telecommunications services as part of the government’s commitment to public sector enterprises.
