New Delhi: Senior IRS officer Rahul Navin of the 1993 batch, has been posted as the new director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED focuses on enforcing the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), which investigates and acts against financial offences related to foreign exchange regulations, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), to prevent and combat money laundering activities by identifying, seizing, and taking legal action against assets derived from illicit financial activities.
Navin is taking charge as the Acting Director of the Enforcement Directorate, replacing Sanjay Kumar Mishra an IRS officer of the 1984 batch. Mishra was appointed ED director for a two year tenure that ended in November 2020. He was granted an extension of one year.
His appointment as Acting Director of the ED makes Navin the most senior officer within the ED. Added to this position, he is also serving as the Chief Vigilance Officer of the headquarters of the ED. Navin will be serving as Acting Director until the appointment of a new director takes place formally.
