New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence finalised a Rs 588.68-crore contract with Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) recently, according to an announcement by the ministry. The contract, falling under the Buy (Indian) category, aims to enhance India’s digital defence capabilities through the implementation of the Digital Coast Guard (DCG) project.
Aligned with the vision of “Ports for Prosperity” and “Ports for Progress,” announced by President Draupadi Murmu, the initiative is set to propel technological advancements within the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
The nationwide scope of the DCG project includes the construction of an advanced “Data Centre,” the establishment of a robust “Disaster Recovery Data Centre,” amplification of connectivity across ICG sites, and the development of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
Leveraging secured multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) and very small aperture terminal (VSAT) connectivity, the project positions itself at the forefront of defence technology, streamlining logistical processes for the ministry and resulting in significant resource and time savings.
At its core, the DCG project signifies the creation of a Tier-III standard Data Centre with state-of-the-art technological capabilities. This facility will serve as the nerve centre, facilitating centralised monitoring and management of applications deployed by the ICG, ensuring vigilant oversight of critical IT assets.
The collaboration is expected to generate approximately 150,000 man-days over a five-year period, fostering active participation from diverse sectors of Indian industries.
