New Delhi: In response to the flooding caused by Cyclone Michaung in Chennai, state-run NLC India Limited announced its proactive contribution to the relief efforts. The company has dispatched 16 high-capacity pumps commonly used in lignite mines to assist in draining water from inundated areas in the city.
Chennai and its neighbouring districts have been severely impacted by the cyclone, leading to widespread flooding, disruptions in transportation, and significant challenges for the local administration. Recognising the urgent need for assistance, NLC India Limited expressed its support for Chennai Corporation’s ongoing efforts to manage the crisis.
Engineers and technicians from all three mines of the PSU have been mobilised to Chennai, equipped with the specialised giant high-capacity motor pumps. These pumps, renowned for their efficiency in lignite mines, are expected to play a crucial role in rapidly removing stagnant water from the flooded areas, facilitating a quicker return to normalcy.
With heavy downpours battering the city, numerous streets, arterial roads, and low-lying areas are currently submerged. Chennai Corporation has been tirelessly deploying its own resources, including giant motor pumps, to combat the floodwaters. NLC India Limited’s intervention aims to complement these efforts, expediting the drainage process and mitigating the impact of the ongoing crisis.
