Aizawl: In a historic development, Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi has become the first female Indian Armed Forces officer to be appointed as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Mizoram, Hari Babu Kambhampati.
The official announcement was made by the Governor’s office in Mizoram on Monday, December 4. Squadron Leader Padhi was previously stationed at Air Force bases in Bidar, Pune, and Bhatinda.
The Governor’s office released an official statement, affirming, “Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi appointed as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Mizoram. Squadron Leader Manisha is India’s first woman Indian Armed Forces officer to be appointed as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of the country.”
Following the formal ceremony, Squadron Leader Padhi was introduced to the officers and staff at the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital.
The title of ‘Aide-de-Camp’ holds significance as an officer in the armed forces assisting a higher-ranking officer. In India, it is considered an honorary title, and those serving or having served in the role are conferred with the post-nominal letters ADC.
Traditionally, service chiefs, including those of the Army, Navy, and Air Staff, have aides-de-camp, with the President having a team of five. Among the President’s aides-de-camp, three are from the Army, and one each from the Navy and Air Force. Additionally, an honorary aide-de-camp from the Territorial Army is appointed.
Governors of states in India typically have two aides-de-camp, one each from the Indian Armed Forces and the Indian and state police services. However, it’s noteworthy that in Jammu and Kashmir, both aides-de-camp to the governor are exclusively appointed from the Indian Army.
