New Delhi: India’s Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) recently announced the launch of its sub-metre optical satellite, TSAT-1A, into space. The satellite was built and tested in India and was sent into orbit aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on April 7th.
TASL reported that TSAT-1A has advanced multispectral and hyperspectral capabilities which allows it to deliver high-resolution optical satellite images quickly and with greater capacity. This deployment is an important accomplishment for TASL, a subsidiary of Tata Sons known for its aerospace and defence solutions.
The partnership between TASL and Satellogic Inc., an Earth Observation data collector, was central in creating TSAT-1A. It was assembled at TASL’s Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) plant in Karnataka. The satellite benefits from Satellogic’s expertise in Earth Observation technology and TASL’s skill in system integration.
