New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is using social media to engage young and urban voters for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Their initiatives like the ‘Turning 18’ campaign and ‘You Are The One’ movement aim to encourage youth to vote and recognise everyone involved in the election process. They’re also collaborating with popular figures and using GenZ-friendly content to reach a wide audience.
‘Turning 18’ campaign
Under the ‘Turning 18’ campaign, the ECI plans to target first-time voters by employing compelling themes and branding strategies to capture their attention. The campaign is aiming to encourage active participation and inclusivity in the electoral process by showcasing the increased involvement of young women, within the age bracket of 18-30, in voting.
With collaboration from State Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and national broadcasters like DD News and Akashvani, the campaign’s impact will be amplified, reaching diverse segments of society.
‘You Are The One’ campaign
Following the ‘Turning 18’ campaign, the ECI launched another important campaign called ‘You Are The One.’ This campaign aims to honour and celebrate the important contributions of various people involved in elections, including voters, political parties, election officers, and security personnel.
Through engaging stories and visuals, the campaign highlights the dedication of these individuals and their crucial roles to ensure fair and efficient elections. It shares anecdotes and videos that showcase the hard work of election teams, even in challenging conditions, to ensure that every voter can cast their ballot.
Election stories, crosswords and election dictionary
The campaign includes additional features like ‘Chunaavi Kisse’, which shares stories from past elections, and an ‘A-Z of Indian Elections’ series that explains election terms and processes. There’s also ‘Word play with ECI’, where users find election-related terms, and a ‘Sawal Jawab’ series answering common questions about the electoral process. Through the ‘Polls and Pixels’ series, ECI presents a visual journey of Indian elections from the beginning.
