New Delhi: According to a notification from the government, rules pertaining to specific provisions of the Telecommunications Act 2023 will take effect on June 26.
The current, antiquated legal structure for the telecommunications industry, which was based on the Telegraph Wires (Unlawful Possession) Act (1950), the Wireless Telegraphy Act (1933), and the Indian Telegraph Act (1885), has been replaced by the Telecommunications Act 2023. In the event of a conflict, in the interest of good relations with other countries, or for the sake of maintaining national security, the rule will empower the government to assume control and management of any or all communications services or networks.
With the implementation of these new regulations, the Universal Service Obligation Fund will be renamed as Digital Bharat Nidhi. Rather than being limited to aiding in the provision of telecom services in rural regions, this fund can also be used to finance pilot projects and research and development.
