New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) addressing the discrepancies in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) examination 2024 (NEET-UG 2024) results and the call for fresh examinations due to alleged paper leak and irregularities.
Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah led the bench. They said, “Sanctity has been affected, we need answers.†A hearing has been scheduled for July 8.
Advocate Mathews Nedumpara presented the plea, seeking a “reconsideration of the NEET 2024 results, stay on counselling and other reliefs.†The petition was filed by Shivangi Mishra along with others on June 1, before the results were declared.Â
On May 17, the Supreme Court refused to stay the results but issued a notice to the NTA over allegations of a paper leak and scheduled the matter for July 8. The court also refused to allow new petitions about discrepancies and grace marks in the NEET-UG 2024 results and directed these petitions to the Registry for proper processing through Chief Justice Chandrachud.
Petitioner’s demands
Several petitions were filed because of concerns over the granting of grace marks to over 1,500 students because of exam delays and called for fresh exams.Â
- The petitions questioned the unlikely high scores and highlighted concerns about the provisional answer key and allegations of a paper leak.
- The petitioners requested a stay on NEET-UG 2024 counselling until the investigation is complete and demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) be formed to investigate the matter.
On June 8, the NTA and the Union Education Ministry announced a four-member committee to review the results of the candidates who received grace marks.
