Kottayam: Skye Air Mobility, a drone logistics company, has partnered with CARiTAS Hospital & Institute of Health Sciences in Kottayam, Kerala, to introduce the state’s first drone-based medical delivery service. This collaboration aims to enhance healthcare logistics in South Kerala by significantly reducing the time it takes to deliver essential medical supplies and diagnostic samples across the region.
The initiative will utilize drones to transport payloads of up to 3 kilograms over distances ranging from 10 to 15 kilometers, linking CARiTAS Hospital with its satellite healthcare facilities, including Caritas Family Hospital and CARiTAS KMM. The drone system is expected to cut delivery times from hours to just 5-7 minutes, ensuring that critical medical items reach their destinations swiftly. This aims to improve the efficiency of healthcare delivery and contribute to reducing carbon emissions by minimizing road transport.
The program is scheduled to undergo further trial runs before a full-scale rollout across the Kottayam district. Skye Air Mobility said that the partnership with CARiTAS Hospital underscores the potential of drone technology in enhancing healthcare accessibility, particularly in remote areas. As the program expands, the firm expects it to set a precedent for similar initiatives across India.
