New Delhi: The government has appointed Finance Secretary TV Somanathan as the new Cabinet Secretary for a tenure of two years. An official order released by the Ministry of Personnel informed that his appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Somanathan is an Indian Administrative Service Officer of the 1987 batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre. He has previously served as the Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office between 2015 and 2017. He later served in his cadre and was then appointed as the Expenditure Secretary in December 2019. He has also worked as the sector manager at the World Bank, as Joint Secretary in the Corporate Affairs Ministry, and as Managing Director of Chennai Metro Corporation.
The government designated him as the Finance Secretary in April 2021. Currently, Somanathan also serves as the chairman of the committee constituted to review the pension system for government employees.
