Hyderabad: Amazon India has ramped up its operations network ahead of the upcoming festive season, adding three new fulfillment centers to its existing infrastructure. The company now operates over 43 million cubic feet of storage space, with sort centers across 19 states and 2,000 delivery stations.
With its flagship sale event, the Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF), set to begin on September 27, Amazon expects a surge in demand. It has boarded two lakh more sellers in recent months, bringing the total to 16 lakh, and has created 1.1 lakh seasonal job opportunities to handle the anticipated increase in orders.
Amazon is also introducing new AI-driven features, including AI-Generated Review Highlights and Rufus, a conversational shopping assistant, to streamline the customer experience.
In addition, Amazon has lowered selling fees for various categories by up to 12% to support sellers ahead of the sale.
The Indian e-commerce sector is expected to see a rise in sales during the festive period, with estimates projecting $12 billion in merchandise shipments, a 23% increase from last year. Meanwhile, competition with rivals like Flipkart, which recorded 1.4 billion visits during its 2023 festival sale, remains intense.
