Mumbai: Bharat Petro Resources Limited (BPRL), a subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has secured its first production concession in Abu Dhabi. In partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), BPRL was granted the concession through their joint venture, Urja Bharat Pte Limited (UBPL). This follows a successful exploration phase that began in 2019.
UBPL invested nearly USD 164 million in exploring a 6,162-square-kilometer area, which yielded promising oil and gas resources in the Ruwais area of Onshore Block 1. The production concession grants UBPL 100% rights, marking the first time an international company has secured a full production concession from Abu Dhabi’s exploration bid rounds.
This project is expected to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon sector and aligns with the emirate’s goals for sustainable economic growth. BPRL’s entry into Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas production sector is seen as a strategic step in enhancing India’s energy security by adding valuable assets to its portfolio.
