New Delhi: The Swiss government has submitted its proposed free trade agreement with India to parliament which marks a key step toward finalizing the deal. Signed in March 2024, the agreement requires parliamentary approval before taking effect. The Swiss parliament is set to debate the treaty during its upcoming spring and winter sessions.
Following 16 years of negotiations, the agreement aims to significantly boost trade by reducing tariffs on nearly 95% of Swiss exports to India. Once approved, the deal will open access to the Indian market, the world’s most populous country, offering new opportunities for Swiss businesses.
The free trade agreement is expected to strengthen economic ties between Switzerland and India, supporting the export of Swiss goods while enhancing bilateral trade relations. The move represents a strategic push by Switzerland to expand its economic footprint in emerging markets.
