Bengaluru: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian technology conglomerate, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US-based Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) to promote clean energy solutions globally. The collaboration will focus on providing clean energy solutions through CCTE’s ANEEL (Advanced Nuclear Energy for Enriched Life) fuel. ANEEL is a thorium and uranium-based nuclear fuel designed for use in Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR), Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) Reactors, and Advanced Nuclear Reactors. The fuel promises to enhance safety, decarbonize industries, and reduce nuclear waste by more than 85%,
At the signing ceremony held in Mumbai, L&T emphasized the importance of accelerating nuclear power deployment, especially in developing nations that need carbon-free electricity. Anil Parab, Whole-time Director and Senior Executive VP (Heavy Engineering L&T valves), stated that the company aims to establish a robust supply chain for ANEEL fuel, leveraging its manufacturing expertise to provide “One Stop Solutions” for Indian customers. This partnership also aligns with Indo-US civil nuclear cooperation agreements.
CCTE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mehul Shah highlighted that this collaboration marks a significant step toward the global deployment of ANEEL fuel by 2026. The fuel is currently undergoing testing with the US Department of Energy, with successful commercialization expected to enhance energy security and support sustainable development.
