Bengaluru: In a first, the Bengalu Police has launched AI-generated Avatars with an aim to increase its social media outreach. The initiative, in its experiment phase, aims to enhance public communication in the city, with virtual police officers crafted to look just like their real counterparts, interacting through a video.
By using generative AI, these virtual replicas are designed to copy the appearance, voice, and lip movements of real officials. In order to create AI-generated videos, Police officials type their messages into an AI tool, subsequently producing a video featuring the avatar delivering the message. Voice samples are pre-recorded so that the final product looks and sounds authentic. For this purpose, the Bengaluru Police Department has partnered with Aeos, a Bengaluru-based AI and digital content startup.
According to the police department, the innovation will allow for faster public outreach during critical situations. These avatars can be used to reach a larger audience without many logistical requirements and physical setup whether to make an urgent announcement, a safety alert, or for traffic diversion updates, etc.
