New Delhi: The Central government has made ₹2,364 crore over the last three years by selling scrap from its offices. This was part of the “Special Campaign 4.0,” which focuses on cleaning up and reducing backlogs in government offices.
The latest phase of the campaign, held from October 2 to October 31, 2024, brought in ₹650 crore alone. This year, the initiative expanded significantly, covering 5.97 lakh sites compared to 2.59 lakh sites in 2023.
According to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, the campaign has not only generated revenue but also freed up office space. Over 58,000 physical files were reviewed, and 15,816 were discarded, clearing 15,847 square feet of space and earning an extra ₹16.39 lakh.
Managed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the effort aims to streamline operations and create a better working environment for staff by removing clutter and outdated files.
