New Delhi: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, former Union Home Secretary, has been appointed as the Governor of Manipur, as announced by the President’s Secretariat. Bhalla takes over from Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who had been handling additional charge of Manipur since July 2023.
Experienced Leadership for Manipur
Bhalla’s extensive experience in governance and national security is expected to contribute positively to Manipur’s administrative and developmental priorities. During his tenure as Union Home Secretary, he played a key role in implementing significant policies and legislative measures. His appointment is being viewed as a step towards strengthening governance in the northeastern state.
Key Appointments Across States
The announcement also includes several other key gubernatorial appointments:
Odisha Governor: Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has been appointed as the new Governor of Odisha following Raghubar Das’s resignation.
Mizoram Governor: Vijay Kumar Singh, a retired General and former Union Minister, will assume charge as the new Governor of Mizoram.
Kerala and Bihar Governors: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will move to Bihar, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, currently the Governor of Bihar, will take charge as the Governor of Kerala.
Strengthening Governance Across Regions
The reshuffle reflects a renewed focus on strengthening governance and leadership across key states. With a mix of experienced administrators and seasoned leaders taking charge, these appointments are expected to enhance administrative efficiency and address state-specific priorities effectively.
