Mumbai: Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with HCL Software to optimise the performance of its 4G and 5G networks. The telecom operator plans to use HCL’s Augmented Network Automation (HCL ANA) platform, a multi-vendor self-optimising network (MV-SON) solution, to streamline operations across its Ericsson and Samsung networks.
Focus on AI-Driven Network Management
In a regulatory filing, Vi stated that the integration of the AI-powered HCL ANA platform will help enhance network performance, reduce energy consumption, and simplify operations for its complex, multi-vendor network. The platform is designed to ensure efficient network integration and operation while minimising costs.
The deployment aligns with Vi’s broader strategy to modernise its infrastructure as it faces increasing competition in the telecom sector. The partnership comes at a critical time for Vi, which recently reported a drop in its revenue market share to 14.5% in the July-September 2024 quarter, down from 15% in the previous quarter.
Industry Implications
Experts view the collaboration as a step by Vi to address operational inefficiencies and position itself for future telecom advancements. For HCL Software, the deal highlights the increasing adoption of AI-driven solutions in telecom infrastructure.
Vi’s Chief Technology Officer, Jagbir Singh, highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating that the platform will improve operations and customer experience. Neeraj Purandare, Senior VP at HCL Software, noted that the platform is designed to support scalable operations while fostering local technology development.
As Vi navigates its challenges, this partnership may indicate a strategic pivot towards innovation and operational efficiency in the highly competitive telecom sector.
