Guwahati: At the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized Assam’s rapid economic growth, infrastructure expansion and emerging role in India’s manufacturing and technology sectors.
“Assam is turning into a destination for start-up units and will become a manufacturing hub for the northeast,” stated PM Modi.
He highlighted that Assam’s economy has doubled in the past six years, reaching nearly Rs 6 lakh crore, attributing this to strong governance and investment-friendly policies.

Focusing on infrastructure, Modi noted that Assam’s connectivity has significantly improved under the central government. He pointed out that prior to 2014, the Brahmaputra River had only three bridges, but in the past decade, four new bridges have been built, including one named after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.
Additionally, the state’s railway budget has been increased over fourfold, enabling the modernization of over 60 stations and the introduction of the Northeast’s first semi-high-speed train between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri.
The PM also highlighted that Assam’s air connectivity has also expanded, with flight routes increasing from seven in 2014 to nearly 30 in today’s time.
PM Modi also underscored Assam’s role in Make in India and semiconductor manufacturing push. He cited the establishment of Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test Facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad as a major milestone, signalling Assam’s emergence as a key hub for semiconductor production.

Additionally, he highlighted ongoing collaborations with IITs for semiconductor research and projected India’s electronic manufacturing sector to reach a valuation of $500 billion by the decade’s end.
Energy security and green initiatives were also key focus areas, with Modi stating that Assam accounts for over 50 per cent of India’s onshore natural gas production. The government has expanded refinery capacities and is encouraging investments in green hydrogen and renewable energy.
He urged investors to leverage the newly launched North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme (Unnati), aimed at boosting industries, investment, and tourism in Assam and the broader Northeast.
Looking ahead, PM Modi expressed confidence in Assam’s ability to become a major manufacturing and trade hub for Southeast Asia.
PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Assam’s development, envisioning it as a driving force in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
