New Delhi: In a major step towards fostering innovation in the Indian electronic toy industry, CDAC-Noida, a research organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Creative Play Lab (CPL), a division of the LEGO Group. The agreement falls under MeitY’s ‘Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)’ project.
Dignitaries Attend LoI Signing Event
The signing ceremony was graced by key dignitaries, including Bhuvnesh Kumar and Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretaries, MeitY; Sunita Verma, GC R&D, MeitY; Vivek Khaneja, ED, CDAC-Noida; and top LEGO executives, including Colette Burke, Global Chief Commercial Officer, LEGO Group, Denmark, and Claus Kristensen, Senior Vice President, APAC Market Group, Singapore.
An Initiative to Empower Young Engineers in Electronic Toy Development
This initiative aims to nurture the Indian electronic toy ecosystem by equipping young engineers, particularly from SC/ST and North Eastern Region (NER) backgrounds, with hands-on experience in toy design and development. Under this program, selected engineers undergo a year-long training, including a six-month research and development (R&D) phase at CDAC-Noida’s toy labs, followed by six months of industry training to develop toy prototypes aligned with market needs.
Global Exposure and Mentorship by LEGO Group
To enhance learning, LEGO India and CPL will mentor 1-2 students per batch on toy prototype development. Additionally, selected students will have the opportunity to visit LEGO Group’s headquarters in Billund, Denmark, gaining international exposure to global toy-making standards. CPL will also provide knowledge-sharing sessions for the third batch of young engineers through webinars, offering guidance on experimentation, toy development, and industry standards.
This collaboration is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global electronic toy industry, fostering innovation, skill development, and international cooperation.
