New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced a groundbreaking initiative for regular commuters on national highways. As per the announcement, the government plans to introduce annual and lifetime toll passes for commuters. This step aims to reduce the burden of frequent toll payments, ensuring cost-effective and hassle-free travel for private vehicle owners.
Key Features of the Initiative Include:
Affordable Pricing for Regular Travelers: Â Under the proposed plan, commuters will have two options. They can either opt for an annual toll pass priced at Rs. 3,000 per year, allowing unlimited travel on national highways or a lifetime toll pass with a one-time payment of Rs. 30,000, valid for 15 years.
Cheaper than Existing Monthly Passes: Currently, users pay Rs. 340 per month for a toll pass, which amounts to Rs. 4,080 annually. The new system will offer a cheaper and more convenient alternative for frequent highway users.
Embedding in FASTags for Seamless Use: Unlike traditional passes, the new toll passes will be directly embedded in FASTags, eliminating the need for additional documentation or separate purchases. Commuters can continue using their existing FASTags without any extra effort.
With the proposal in its advanced stages, the initiative could transform highway travel, making it more economical and stress-free for millions of commuters across India.
