Bengaluru: DTDC, a major logistics provider, is shifting its focus to ultra-fast deliveries by launching its first dark store in Bengaluru. The facility will function as a hyperlocal fulfillment center, improving delivery times for direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, social commerce sellers, and other businesses requiring quick turnaround times.
The move aligns with the growing demand for faster logistics solutions in India’s expanding e-commerce market. DTDC aims to reduce delivery times to as little as two to four hours for select locations while strengthening its same-day delivery capabilities.
Dark Stores: A Strategic Shift in Logistics
Dark stores, warehouses designed for rapid order fulfillment are gaining popularity in India’s logistics sector. By establishing its first such facility, DTDC is positioning itself alongside other players tapping into the quick commerce boom. Bengaluru, a key e-commerce hub, was chosen as the starting point due to its high concentration of online businesses and consumer demand for faster deliveries.
Future Expansion Plans
DTDC has traditionally focused on next-day deliveries, but this expansion signals its entry into the competitive quick commerce space. The company plans to expand its dark store network beyond Bengaluru, bringing ultra-fast logistics to more cities in the coming months.
Subhasish Chakraborty, Founder & Chairman and Managing Director of DTDC Express Ltd., said, “This marks a crucial step in DTDC’s efforts to modernize logistics and support businesses navigating India’s evolving e-commerce landscape.”
With logistics playing a key role in digital commerce, DTDC’s move into hyperlocal fulfillment could reshape competition in the sector. The success of its Bengaluru dark store may determine how quickly the company scales up its rapid delivery network nationwide.
