New Delhi: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has appointed former chief secretary L Khiangte as the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
Khiangte, a 1988-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, has held several senior positions in the state administration. He previously served as Jharkhand’s Chief Secretary and held key roles in the Home and Personnel Departments. His experience in governance and recruitment is expected to help JPSC address pending issues.
Delay Impacted Key Examinations
The absence of a JPSC chairman had stalled crucial recruitment processes, affecting thousands of aspirants. Major examinations, including the 11th–13th Civil Services Examination (342 posts), Child Development Project Officer (64 posts), and Food Safety Officer (56 posts), faced delays. While some exams were conducted, the lack of leadership resulted in pending results and recruitment backlogs.
Government Faced Pressure to Act
The prolonged delay had drawn criticism from opposition parties and job seekers, pushing the state government to act. The Jharkhand High Court also intervened, adding urgency to the appointment.
With Khiangte now in charge, the focus will be on clearing the backlog and ensuring timely recruitment. His leadership will be closely watched as JPSC works to restore efficiency in its selection process.
