Kolkata: The West Bengal government is further digitising its scheme aimed at social security for those working in the unorganised sector across the state.
A total of 1 crore 76 lakh subscribing consumers will receive the monthly update of the amount credited in their account via SMS from now on.
Incidentally, Bengal has earlier introduced this scheme similar to Provident Fund, but for free, for unorganised sector workers across the state.
This 1.76 crore workers can enrol themselves in this scheme at the age of 18. Subsequently, once they cross 60, they will receive 2.72 lakh along with all the interests accrued.
The state has to deposit Rs 55 per person monthly for this purpose. Till April 2020, each individual subscriber had to deposit Rs 25 while the state used to submit the remainder of Rs 30. However, now the state takes care of the entire amount.
Till date, while this information was updated in the state portal, the subscribers were not receiving the update in real time.
Each subscriber has been given a physical pass book that has to be currently updated from the labour organization offices or Duare Sarkar camps. This was taking an inordinately long time and will now be taken care of as the SMS will contain all immediate deposit updates.
Like Provident fund, all the details will reach the subscriber immediately via SMS. The State Labour Department is also planning to launch an online mechanism so that a subscriber can view all the details in a dashboard.
