New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) have signed an agreement to install electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery swapping stations in sports complexes across Delhi.
The move aims to improve EV infrastructure in the city and support the transition to clean mobility.
Agreement Details and Implementation
Under the agreement, DDA will provide vacant land in identified sports complexes, while CESL will establish and operate the charging stations. The project will cover key areas across North, South, East and West Delhi, ensuring wider access to charging facilities for EV users.
CESL, a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the Ministry of Power, will collaborate with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) for the installation and management of the stations. The infrastructure will be developed under the Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) model, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Impact on Delhi’s EV Ecosystem
The agreement is expected to accelerate EV adoption in the city by making charging infrastructure more accessible. With CESL already operating 455 EV charging stations across India, the expansion in Delhi aligns with broader efforts to enhance urban mobility.
DDA Vice-Chairman Vijay Kumar Singh emphasized that integrating EV facilities in public spaces supports Delhi’s sustainability goals. CESL MD & CEO Vishal Kapoor stated that the partnership will create a reliable charging network and contribute to India’s clean energy transition.
By leveraging public spaces for EV infrastructure, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support India’s decarbonization targets.
