Guwahati: The Railway Ministry will develop Guwahati Railway Station into an IT hub with modern facilities, including a multi-story building dedicated to the IT sector, alongside upgrading it to a world-class station.
This decision would turn Guwahati into a world-class railway station. The design is expected to be completed soon, and construction is expected to begin after that.
The Guwahati station modernization is part of the program to redevelop 92 stations within the Northeast Frontier Railway jurisdiction under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
The redevelopment work is already underway in 60 stations across the Northeast, with 50 of them being in Assam alone.
Special emphasis has been given to significant upgrades in four stations in Assam. These involve investments of Rs 30.95 crore for Narengi, Rs 31.18 crore for Jagiroad, Rs 31.87 crore for Chaparmukh and Rs 14.94 crore for Haibargaon.
The ABSS focused on enhancing passenger amenities, making passenger friendly hund, upgrading station aesthetics, improving waiting rooms, lighting, enhancing signages, cleaning toilets and seamless accessibility.
Other upgrades include lifts and escalators, approach roads, dedicated entry and exit marks, parking facilities and facilities for divyangjan.
