Aizawl: The Central Government will construct a bridge near Sairang in Aizawl to boost connectivity across Mizoram.
This initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the North East, primarily through railway projects aimed at linking these remote regions with the rest of India.
The project is expected to be launched in July this year with a budgetary outlay of Rs 8,215 crore. Out of that, an amount of Rs 7,714 crore has already been spent.
This expenditure has been primarily incurred on a 51.38 km broad gauge railway line stretching from the Kolasib district’s Bairabi border in Assam to Sairang near Aizawl.
The railway line will be crossing through four stations. These include Sairang-Sihhmui, Mualkhang, Kawnpui and Hortoki.
The bridge will improve access to remote areas and reduce the travel time of people and goods. This in turn could create additional economic opportunities in this hilly and challenging terrain.
