Raipur: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) and the Chhattisgarh government to develop a 1400 MW pumped storage hydroelectric power project in Dangari, Jashpur district.
Strategic Move to Boost Renewable Energy
The agreement was signed in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain at an event in Raipur. Officials from THDCIL and CSPGCL, including THDCIL’s Chairman & Managing Director R.K. Vishnoi attended the ceremony.
THDCIL has been expanding its renewable energy portfolio, with pumped storage projects (PSPs) emerging as a key technology for stabilizing the power grid. These projects store energy by pumping water during low-demand periods and generating electricity during peak hours.
Energy Security and Economic Impact
THDCIL officials stated that the Dangari PSP will contribute to balancing renewable energy sources, improving grid stability, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The project is also expected to generate local employment and support economic growth in Jashpur.
Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) at THDCIL, emphasized that the project will use advanced technology to optimize energy storage and distribution. The company has been actively developing similar projects across the country to strengthen India’s energy security.
Government-Backed Renewable Push
The Chhattisgarh government’s representatives, including Principal Secretary (Energy) Subodh Kumar Singh, participated in the signing. Other key officials from the state’s energy and finance departments, as well as representatives from NTPC and THDCIL, were present.
With increasing investments in pumped storage projects, the collaboration is part of a broader push to integrate renewable energy into India’s power sector.
