New Delhi: The ambitious push to build indigenous artificial intelligence capabilities has received strong interest, with a total of 506 proposals submitted across three phases of the IndiaAI Innovation Initiative.
Launched on 30 January this year, the initiative invites researchers, startups, and entrepreneurs to collaborate on the development of foundational AI models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Small Language Models (SLMs) and Large Multimodal Models, trained on Indian datasets.
Spearheaded under the IndiaAI Innovation Centre, the programme aims to promote the creation of state-of-the-art AI models that meet global standards while being tailored to India’s specific socio-economic needs.
Due to overwhelming interest, the deadline for Phase 3 proposal submissions was extended to 30 April.
IndiaAI Mission stated that the future submission timelines will be announced after ongoing evaluations are completed.
As part of the first phase, one startup has already been selected to begin work on developing a foundational AI model, with additional selections expected to follow.
