Mumbai: In an unprecedented move, IPS Dr Arti Singh, a 2006-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the first-ever Joint Commissioner (Intelligence) by the Mumbai Police. The creation of this new position signals a significant move towards bolstering the city’s intelligence and internal security mechanisms.
Previously serving as Inspector General (Administration) at the Maharashtra Police Headquarters, IPS Dr Singh brings with her a wealth of experience and an impressive record. An MBBS graduate from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), she has handled several challenging assignments with distinction, including leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the Badlapur incident and serving as Commissioner of Amravati.
IPS Dr Singh’s accolades reflect her commitment to public service. She was honoured with a National Award as a COVID Warrior and received the Internal Security Medal from the Government of India for her work in extremism-affected regions. She has also been recognised internationally, featured in Forbes for combating gender bias and in the Khaleej Times as the only IPS officer to gain such recognition.
Her appointment marks a decisive step by the Mumbai Police in adopting intelligence-led policing, highlighting a proactive approach toward internal threat management and urban security preparedness.
