Siliguri: The West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee, will chair the business meet called “Synergy” in Siliguri today. The Synergy meet will take place at the Dinabandhu Mancha in Siliguri today from 3 pm.
The meeting will bring together trade bodies from eight districts of North Bengal. The aim is to boost investment in the MSME sector in the region.
A similar business meet was held in North Bengal seven years ago, in Darjeeling in 2018.
While North Bengal was earlier perceived largely as a trading hub, today the focus is on the MSME sector. The encouragement is to explore new industrial ventures.
Synergy will serve as a platform for trade representatives, potential investors and government officials from different departments to identify and address challenges in promoting regional investments.
Around 1000 representatives from various trade bodies across the region will participate in Synergy. This includes industrial estates as well as the tea and tourism sectors.
The North Bengal’s investment potential was given a concerted focus for the first time at the Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata in February. Synergy will be the logical follow-up to this.
Investors have already poured more than Rs 5 lakh crore into sectors such as ethanol, textiles, cement, paper, maize, pasta production and horticulture.
Several investor-friendly measures for North Bengal have already been introduced. These include online issuance of trade and fire licenses from Uttarkanya Secretariat in Siliguri, technical committees for high-rise construction approvals and development of industrial parks.
