New Delhi: Gautam Budh Nagar district administration has launched a week-long campaign to promote water conservation and monitor water use as part of Groundwater Week, observed from July 16 to 22.Â
The drive focuses on stricter checks and increased public awareness. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma chaired a meeting and directed officials to inspect rainwater harvesting systems in government buildings and high-rise residential complexes. He said any building without a working setup must fix the issue immediately.
This year’s Groundwater Week theme, ‘Safe Water, Secure Future,’ emphasizes the need for visible, ground-level efforts. Verma added that all stakeholders will be held accountable for the upkeep and proper use of rainwater systems. The administration will also closely monitor water-intensive sites like construction areas, RO plants, and car wash centers to check for wastage.
The education department has also been involved. Basic Education Officer Rahul Pawar has been asked to ensure schools conduct daily awareness sessions throughout the week.
All departments have been told to submit detailed activity plans and upload daily progress reports on the official portal. The DM urged officials to use every possible medium to spread awareness and engage the public.
The campaign aims to instill long-term water-saving habits among residents, institutions, and authorities.
